Artist Statement

Photographic artist Lisa Murzin’s work deals with transition. Her images seek to represent visually the time and space between states, sites and subjects. Some of her past photographic studies have included abandoned buildings, adolescents at the threshold between childhood and adulthood, and apartments in the time between tenants. In these works Lisa draws the viewer into the world of her subjects, allowing them to speak of forgotten stories and long-dormant memories. Spending her summers on her Aunt and Uncle’s farm, Murzin developed an early appreciation and understanding for rural life. Murzin’s current work, documenting Ontario farmers picks up this thread as she seeks to represent a world that is shrinking as large-scale farms replace the family farm.
